Letters from Readers: NO NUDES IN BOSTON.

"I enjoy your frank, stimulating and thought-provoking editorials. It's a shame that a few narrow-minded hypocrites have to set the standards to which everyone else must conform, but there you are. Here is a concrete example which is both irritating and amusing. I recently paid a visit to my old school, Boys High School in Boston. I went to the swimming pool and was amazed to find the lads, tennagers of 15 to 17 years old, wearing regular trunks! In my day, our instructors were clothed, but the boys were required to swim in the nude, for reason of sanitation more than anything else. A friend of mine who teaches there gave me the story. It seems that a group of phoney bigots decided that a group of nude boys splashing about in the pool was Indecent and shocking! They were further incensed to leam that the Instructor would frequently administer much-needed discipline by flipping a strapping boy across his knees and administering a 'warming' on the bare portion of the anatomy where it did the most good. The result of their meddling? He says the boys now display an unnatural curiousity and lewdness in the showers and locker room, and because a finger cannot be lifted against them, juvenile delinquency is on the rise. I just cite that as an example of what this current prudishness can produce." AP Boston, Mass.

NEW PHYSIQUE MAGAZINES. VIM and GYM may give up the ghost. The two key members of their staff have now gone separate ways with Bill Bunton now offering MANUAL (50c 179 W Washington Chicago 2 ILL) while Frank Adams offers ZEST (50c 8728 S. Commercial Avenue, Chicago 17, Illinois). From the Frontier Athletic Club (Ray Vallejo, Secretary, Rosarito, Baja Califomia, Mexico) we have received a book entitled THE MIGHTY (50c) which is prepared on a spirit duplicator, has line drawings but no half-tones, is quite candid in its reports of club activities, editor's views on bodybuilding etc. We enjoyed the book very much.

AMG FILM "BOYS IN PRISON" SCHEDULED FOR RELEASE ABOUT JUNE 1, 59. As this book goes to press, editing work still remains to be done on Boys in Prison. The approximate length of the film will be 250 ft (16mm) $15., 125 ft 8mm $10. Don Klein on your left is the "hero", while Mike Ostrow is one of the prisoners. (Mike is on your right). The film was in-

spired by an Art-Bob drawing entitled "The New Fish" which appeared in the Number 2 Volume 7 edition of Physique Pictorial. On page 21 of our Vol 8 Number 4 edition you will see on interpretation of the theme by Tom of Finland. The plot is of a young bodybuilder who is thrown into jail with a bunch of roughnecks. When he attempts to work out with his dumbells and cables they tease and ridicule him. The bully of the group tears his inspirational muscle-man pin-up photo from the wall and destroys it. When the bodybuilder tries to fight the bully, the other prisoners restrain him (for his own good.) Then one day in the shower the final humiliation is visited upon the bodybuilder. After being forced to wash the bully's feet, the bodybuilder is given a kick in the rump which sends him sprawling. Fed-up, les the bully, gets some wrestling holds on him which put him out of commiss-

tack-

ion. The other prisoners are quite impressed. Back in the dormitory, the body-

builder now gets the prized bunk, the other prisoners duitifully read the copies of Physique

Pictorial which have been provided for them, and the film closes with them all going through their exercises. Film is offered by AMG Studios. 23
